Redact & Erase Content

If you need to keep portions of content in a document private, Nitro PDF Pro has you covered. The secure Redaction Tool allows you to permanently mark-out or cover any content that you want to keep confidential, like social security numbers, banking information, a home address, etc. And if you want to redact multiple occurrences of specific content, Nitro provides a search-and-redact tool to make this task faster and simpler.

The Redaction tool allows you to permanently block out or cover any selected content you wish to keep private.

Redacting Text

You can block out text (black out), or erase it (white out) with the redact function.

Select the text you wish to redact.
In the menu, choose Format > Redact text.

Block – If you want that text blacked out.

Erase – If you want a blank space in place of the text.

Note: You will not be able to redact text that has already been made editable using the Correct Text button. That text can instead be deleted. (Editing and Correcting Text).

Redacting an Area

Redact a rectangular area of your document. Choose Tools > Select Rectangle Tool (Command+4).
Drag a rectangle over an area of your page.
Choose Format > Redact Text – Block, or Erase.

All of the content in the rectangle area is securely redacted.
